I am chewing on the last one - like it so far, but the natural applications scare me, like so many of your once conservative friends.

I am on the Barack train. It is a sweet ride. :)

Having practical ministry experience will radically change your teaching perspective for the better. If you do end up in the lecture hall instead of the sanctuary after some time, your students will appreciate you that much more for your hands on experience and relevance. Well - let me revise that thought. More students will find you engaging because of your new perspective.

Our President here at ATS was in parish ministry in the UM church for 38 years before coming to teach homiletics. I think he has been here 14. Two years ago he was asked to be the President because of his knowledge of our community and his pastor's heart. (I thought for a good many minutes before using the word "heart" because it is so overused in popular evangelical circles. Couldn't find another word to replace it so soon after waking up. My apologies.) Dr. Kalas has been used in miraculous ways to help heal rifts between the board and faculty, the board and the student population and has almost totally lifted the corporate depression that loomed over us. I think his doctorate is honorary, but it is no less well deserved. He is a terrific exegete, an excellent orator and has redefined my concept of pastor.

Thanks for these last few posts. I will keep chewing and hopefully get back to you soon on your approach to The Word of God and the Bible.irishtaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11970026811311838430noreply@blogger.com
